At the previously mentioned Melvin Quarry Pond (at U.S. 22/3 and Melvin Road) Near Wilmington OH, I had a ROSS'S GOOSE on Friday (1/23/09) at about noon. There were 34 SNOW GEESE with it including 11 or so blue morph birds. Other birds there included a TUNDRA SWAN (immature), Canvasback, N. Pintail, etc. I did see a Muscovy Duck too, big black and white oddball that he was. All this mixed in with several thousand Canada Geese. I tried and tried to pick out a Cackling Goose, but all I got were some lesser canada geese I think, ahh well there still may be some around since many geese were coming and going to feed in the surrounding corn fields. On the way down I-71 from Columbus I had five Kestrels, 2 Rough-legged Hawk and a couple N. Harriers. A beautiful day to be out. A very brief stop at Greenlawn Cem. brought me before a Red-breasted Nuthatch at the feeders.
- Cheers and sorry about the late post, I've been all over lately.
