Hello Everybody:
Saturday afternoon, in company with birding buddies Gary Cowell, Tim Leslie, and Eric Mayer we went "Owl Prowling" at the Joint Vocational School near Ashland. There is a huge evergreen planting behind the school. In addition, this area has developed into a terrific wildlife haven, with lots of hawthorn, honeysuckle, and tangles. Our goal was to seek out owl species. Unfortunately, no "hooters", but we found several owl pellets, indicating owl activity. Gary, to our surprise, got an excellent look at a Catbird. For late January a good find. As part of our conversation, we wondered how the Carolina Wrens are fairing. This has to be a real challenge for survival for the Carolina Wren and Wild Turkey populations. After a slight one day warm-up the deep snow has formed a fairly hard layer of crust. Lets' hope we get some warm weather this coming week. Overall, a nice way to spend a cold/sunny afternoon in the out-of-doors.
Happy Birding, Don Plant, Perrysville Ohio (Mohican and Crossbill Country)
