A number of people have asked me about the local Wood Ducks along the Scioto River in Columbus. A pair is still in my "backyard stretch" today, Jan. 28th. This is between 5th Ave. and the Rivers Edge complex where the bike path ends, but on the the W side of the river. To get there park in a lot on Lake Shore Drive and walk down to the riverbed. From there you have to a lot of bushwhacking south along the river a ways. Personally I'd check below Griggs Dam first, but they're here and have been all winter if anyone really wants them for a January list. Other ducks along this stretch today include Canada Geese, Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks, C. Goldeneyes, Hooded Mergansers, and a single Bufflehead.
