John Price & I braved the snowstorm yesterday and were rewarded with a few nice additions to our January lists. Here are a few highlights:

Greenlawn Cemetery:  Redpoll & Savannah sparrow at feeders, no merlin.
Greenlawn Dam: Hooded mergansers, Goldeneyes, Ring-necked ducks, Herring gull, A. black duck, et al (no common merg.)
Melvin Quarry (on US 22 NE of Wilmington): Ruddy ducks (3), Snow geese (10) including one blue morph (that had a bill like a Ross, maybe a hybrid?), Bufflehead (1 female), N. pintail (~5), Ring-necks (2), Muscovy domestic (1), Green winged teal (3), Goldeneye (2), lots of CAGOs but couldn't find a cackling.
US 22 between Melvin & turn off for Deer Creek SP: Several horned lark flocks, some mixed with obvious snow buntings.
Short eared owls- 2 perching and flying over corn stubble along 22.
Deer Creek: Horned grebes- two observed by dam on the stream near bridge.  Five great blue herons also on stream.
Merlin- perched in a short tree off of the road near beach area (we were looking for shrikes, but this was a nice surprise!)

John really wanted to make this post this morning but was having some trouble accessing the site from OSU, so sorry for the delay.

I'm at 93 and still hope to break 100 by Saturday!  Does anyone know a reliable spot for turkeys or turkey/black vultures?  I would have thought those would be relatively easy, but have had no luck so far.  Thanks!
