Mahoning River, Lowellville--Struthers: hundreds of Canada geese including some non-giants, 1 canvasback, 5 ring-necked ducks, 2 buffleheads, 10 c. goldeneyes, 15+ hooded mergansers, hundreds of Am. crows, and cedar waxwings.  Here around home in Poland Twp. (Mahoning Co.), feeder visitors lately have included wild turkeys, 2 female red-winged blackbirds, and regular visits by a beautiful adult female sharp-shinned hawk.  Twice I've seen this hawk capture mourning doves; once, it was barely able to fly away with it's kill to feed in peace.  The first time, she couldn't get off the ground with such a large prey item--even after some plucking of feathers to reduce weight.  So she ended up feeding right on the ground, close to the feeders and the house.  Awesome views of a tenacious little predator!!  Anyways, she fed undisturbed for quite awhile before a little preening, then she left.  Here's what surprised me--the next day, she returned in the
afternoon to finish feeding on the dove carcass.  I didn't think a sharpie would do that.  She must have really been hungry...........Craig
