Shane Egleston and I again saw the White-winged Scoter (first winter male?) on the Great Miami River near the DP&L building on Dryden. This time we had to walk south on the bike path to see it - there is some parking where Carillon Blvd turns into E. River Rd. We also saw an adult Bald Eagle fly over the river and perch in a tree near the river.

Later we saw 2 adult male White-winged Scoters above the dam in West Carrollton on the river. These scoters were actively feeding in the river and passed us going downstream towards the dam, then back upstream. When the large flock of Canada Geese on the opposite bank were flushed into the water by a dog walker, the scoters headed further upstream where they were no longer visible because of the bend in the river. At this point they may have been visible from the parking area on Marina Drive.

We also found 5 Cackling Geese among the Canadas.
