Early this afternoon there was a Red Crossbill at Greenlawn Cemetery in
Columbus. The bird was perched at the very top of an evergreen tree (I think
it was a spruce, but I am not sure) in Section X, and remained there for at
least 15-20 minutes. It was apparently a first year male molting into adult
plumage. It had considerable streaking and a pink-red wash over its back and
chest. There was absolutely no sign of white wing bars. I took some
digiscope photos, but with the bright blue sky background the quality is
very poor.
