Although there is still extensive ice cover inside the breakwalls at

Ashtabula and Conneaut,

there are some large areas of open water farther off shore.

A decent number of waterfowl scattered about,

with common merganser being the most abundant at both locations.



Conneaut Harbor –

common merganser – 150+

lesser scaup – 20+

canada goose – 20+

red breasted merganser – 10+

common goldeneye – 10+

mallard – 10+

canvasback – 1

belted kingfisher – 1



Ashtabula (Lake Shore Park) –

common merganser – 200+

common goldeneye – 100+

canada goose – 100+

red breasted merganser – 65+

mallard – 50+

hooded merganser – 15+

bufflehead – 10+

black duck - 1

dc cormorant – 34
