The southern reaches of Hoover Reservoir (Westerville, NE suburb of Columbus) continues to remain mostly ice-free and to host good numbers of ducks and gulls. A quick run from Maxtown launch down to the dam found small cluster of ducks scattered all along the west shore, hiding in wind-free coves. In a half hour of looking, the rough numbers were:
Canada Geese - 150
Mallard - 20
Redhead - 45
Canvasback - 35
Ring-necked Duck - 10
Lesser Scaup - 15
Bufflehead - 2
Common Goldeneye - 5
Red-br.Merganser - 20
Hooded Merganser - 2
Gulls - 750+
