A reminder that I posted a message here yesterday recommending a
new way to advance our knowledge through bird reports, the Bird
Phenology Project. This went unmentioned by two readers who later took
me to task in windy diatribes.
        In the course of recommending the BPP I was reckless enough to observe
it might be more significant than counting robins. We later learned from
Bill Heck that working for the BPP requires no great expertise, and can
be quite interesting. You needn't know how to identify a robin, but you
can advance a project of Wells Cooke and Chandler Robbins. That's a good
thing.
        Most readers know I have worked for many years with Ohio bird records.
It's a waste of hot air to lecture me about the value of bird reports,
especially in public. Will anyone deny that some data are more valuable
than others? Please consider doing some work for the Project, even if
you have to miss a few robins. Or a lecture.
