While observing a local bald eagle nest, we observed an eagle breaking
sticks from nearby tree (twice) which it then took back to its nest,
circling a few times before landing. I'd always assumed the sticks for
the nest were picked up off the ground, but I suppose these branches may
last longer than a rotting stick from the ground. We did not see what
process the eagle used to break the branch, but we'll see if we can in
the future.
