Today I checked out the progression of Spring in eastern Mahoning and northern Columbiana Counties.  Beginning at Lowellville, I saw 1 bufflehead on the Mahoning R.  Evans L. and Pine L. are just starting to open up; there were c. goldeneye, 2 hooded mergansers, and ring-billed gulls at Evans L.  Down in Columbiana Co., 20 horned larks were in cornstubble fields in Fairfield Twp.  At Franklin Square bottoms were 350+ Canada geese, 1 snow goose (blue), mute swan, mallards, 2 Am. black ducks, 2 Am. wigeon, 4 canvasbacks, redhead, ring-necked duck, 4 hooded mergansers, killdeer, 250 c. grackles, and 100 red-winged blackbirds.  No rusty bbs seen.  The 2 GWF geese were not seen either.  Last stop was at Salem Res.  Here were 350+ more Canada geese, 2 mute swans, mallards, 2 Am. black ducks, 2 gadwall, 4 Am. wigeon, 5 n. pintails, 2 canvasbacks, 35 redheads, and 3 Am. coots.  Later, Craig
