Although not a sighting report, I thought the condition of the pinegrove frequented by owls would be of interest to those on the listserv.

I thought the ice storm a few years ago did extensive damage to the large, white pines there on CH71. But the recent wind storm devistated them as I visited the area today. At least 20 large trees were uprooted and litering the ground. They were all green so I knew that this was recent damage. There is no evidence of owls anywhere in the area (pellets). I failed to even find the resident barred owl who usually roosts there.

Such a depressing visit to such a once productive area.Up to 30 Long eared owls and one visit turned up 5 Saw whet owls. Those days are long gone I 'm afraid.
