A bone-chilling morning didn't deter members of a MetroPark field trip at Pickerington Ponds. Despite the cold, water was open, and they found a good variety of waterfowl and some decent landbirds. Waterfowl included Canada Geese, Wood Duck, Mallard, Black Duck, Green-winged Teal, N.Shoveler, American Wigeon, Gadwall, N. Pintail, Redhead, Ring-necked Duck, Hooded Merganser, and Coot. The Great Blue Heron colony at Ellis Pond is gearing up, with lots of birds re-building their nests. Other birds of note included Harriers, and Red-tailed Hawks, as well as Tree Sparrows and Red-winged Blackbirds.
