While visiting Hamilton Township schools today, I happened to absently look out a window and notice a flock of geese in a field near the school. I made a mental note to check them out later, and when finished I drove nearer the field and was surprised to find a large flock of 600+ Canadas loafing and feeding. This was in a large corn stubble field just west of the tiny town of Reese, along Rathburn Rd.. This year, a flock of this size is highly likely to contain something unusual, and this flock was no exception. After 10 minutes I found a Cackling Goose among them. Given that goose flocks were communting back and forth to several quarry lakes and field to the south, it's possible there were even more Canadas and other rarities, so this spot may be worth checking again.
