My Licking Co. only total for January was 48. Best birds, the black
vultures just west of Granville along Route 161. I also had snow buntings
and northern harrier at the Croton egg farms. My only day totally dedicated
to birding was Jan. 2. The rest were all yard birds or seen commuting.

However, how's this for being a loser: As I was just shoveling the ice off
my driveway, I *finally* saw a flock of white-winged crossbills leave the
mature hemlock trees that border the back yard of a neighbor one sreet over.
Unfortunately, they don't count - it's not January any longer - thank
goodness! We're one month closer to spring migration, and we're already
within the safe dates of several species of birds, particularly horned owl.
So, I'll be looking out for those in my 7 OBBA II blocks, beginning this
week.
