Hello!

While running errands today, my wife and I made quick stops at the Scioto
River in Columbus where accessed from Riverside Drive just north of Lane Avenue
(where the frisbee golf course is located), with a second stop at Greenlawn
Cemetery. On the Scioto River, we had great close up looks from the parking
area of an immature male Surf Scoter. Other birds of note observed from the
parking lot included Redheads, Buffleheads, Common Goldeneyes, Black Ducks,
one male Canvasback, Ring-Necked Ducks, and one female Hooded Merganser.

At Greenlawn Cemetery, action at the pit feeders was slow, but we had great
looks at the Merlin atop the sycamore tree in Section 70, and phenomenal looks
at about 25 to 30 White-Winged Crossbills in the northwest corner of the
bridge area near Section 53. The WWCR were feeding in a spruce tree and were
observed at the base of an adjacent hemlock tree. Others there reported that
the WWCR were very active in that area for over 2 hours. After about 20
minutes of observation, they flew away to the north but appeared to stay within the
confines of the cemetery.
