Today I birded in eastern Mahoning Co., including Poland Twp., Evans L., Pine L., and Beaver Twp. Highlights were wood ducks, Am. black ducks, gadwalls, Am. wigeon, n. pintails, n. shovelers, 15 green-winged teal, canvasbacks, 125 redheads, 147 ring-necked ducks, 75 lesser scaup, buffleheads, c. goldeneyes, 29 hooded mergansers, 80 red-breasted mergansers, 30 ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebe, 10 horned grebes, 6 turkey vultures, red-shouldered hawk, red-tailed hawk visiting a nest, Am. kestrel, Am. coots, 5 killdeers, horned larks, n. mockingbirds, e. bluebirds, 12 cedar waxwings, and hundreds of red-winged blackbirds. Again, couldn't find a rusty blackbird with them. Vocal song sparrows are definitely becoming more conspicuous. No ice today, lots of water laying around in fields too. Later, Craig
