The long tailed ducks were still present this morning at Lake Medina. The
wind was brutal but nevertheless I enjoyed extended and excellent views as
the pair dove and preened along the western edge of the reservior.

Many other species present also:
horned grebe
a single eared grebe
pied billed grebe
ruddy duck
ring necked duck
lesser scaup
redhead
american widgeon
mute swan
northern shoveler
bufflehead
hooded merganser
red breasted merganser
canada geese
just a couple of mallards
gulls
killdeer

There were numerous bluebirds, lots of song sparrows, downy woodpeckers
chasing each other, red bellied and pileated wp calling, a sharp shinned
hawk attempting to fly in the gale, cardinals, bluejays, robins, mourning
doves, red winged blackbirds, titmice, chickadees, goldfinches, and a few
juncos -- only the second time I've seen juncos this week -- seems their
numbers are thinning.
