A quick run through some of the access points on Hoover Reservoir (NE of Columbus) found no ice cover and scattered waterfowl flocks, with the best flocks north of the Sunbury causeway. Gull numbers conintue to drop from their astronomical numbers of 2 weeks ago, but there were still many around today. Highlights:

Diving Ducks - sizeable flocks of Scaup (120) and Ring-necked Ducks (60) were off Wiese Rd access, with smaller numbers at other locations.

Mergansers - flocks of Red-br. Mergansers were off Wiese (60+), Oxbow Island (100+), and the dam (75). Hoodeds were scarce, with only a few at several locations.

Grebes - 2-3 Horned Grebes were off most accesses, and a lone Pied-billed was south of the Sunbury Causeway

Cormorants - 5-6 were fishing in the northern reservoir off Wiese rd and the boardwalk.

Gulls - 1000+ Ring-bills were scattered along the entire reservoir, with the largest concentration in the north reaches around Wiese Rd and the Area N boardwalk. Herring Gulls totalled about 25 at all sites.

Turkey Vultures - 1-2 were at most stops, indicating a diffuse movement through the area.

Phoebes - single birds were calling at Oxbow Island and Wiese access
