A single Lesser Black-backed Gull was present this evening off of the Walnut Street Boat ramp at Hoover Reservoir in Columbus. There are still a large number of gulls on the reservoir but they are scattered across the entire water surface and shorelines from the dam north to Galena. Some locals on the boardwalk at Area M were still amazed by the number of gulls present and the whitewash they have left behind on the boardwalk. I did not spot any Bonaparte's Gull but a few Herring Gull are still present (8).

I went to Hoover looking for ducks but was mostly disappointed. The Red-breasted Mergansers are present in their typical spring numbers (200+) and were visible at most stops. The remaining ducks were mostly below Smothers Road or at Wiese Road and were largely Scaup (30), Ring-necked Duck (12), Bufflehead (2) and Horned Grebe (3). There were four Double-crested Cormorants at Wiese Road which are the first I have seen on Hoover this Spring. No sign of the Ospreys yet at Area M. Most of the nooks and crannies on the north end of the lake would typically hold good numbers of Ring-necked Ducks and Hooded Mergansers this time of year but I did not find any today. Maybe we need a few more days of warmer temperatures.
