I haven't seen any reports from the state forests recently, so here is one. I checked out Zaleski this morning. It was cold and heavily overcast, but everything is right on schedule with the regular mid-March birds. 

Eastern Towhees are everywhere. 

I came across at least a half-dozen male Pine Warblers that were singing, but I didn't detect any females yet.

E. Phoebes were widely distributed and singing but not yet at maximum abundance. Some were even already paired up. 

Wood Ducks were at there usual locations and Tree Swallows were flying over Lake Hope and the wetlands south of there. Red-breasted Nuthatches are downright common there and probably have been all winter. Every clump of pines has one or more in attendance. Other birds worth mentioning there included a good sized flock of very vocal Purple Finches near the horse camp, and a few each of Hermit Thrushes and Fox Sparrows. Yellow-rumped Warblers were numerous in the bottomlands, but they were still in basic plumage and none were singing.
