While checking areas along the Big Walnut Creek greenbelt this morning, I came across a Louisiana Waterthrush foraging in a fen stream near the Creekside development in Gahanna. The bird was calling but not singing, and they don't nest at this site, so I assume it was on migration. They do nest within a mile of this site (at Blendon Woods and in the Rocky Fork gorge). This is the earliest by far that I've ever seen one in Ohio, and other birders in likely nesting locales should get out quickly to check for them.

Other early migrants were also in evidence this morning, including:
Brown Creepers - several were in riparian wood patches along the greenbelt
Fox Sparrows - I had 3 in several locations
Blackbirds - Redwings & Grackles were common at most locations
Pine Siskins - 5+ were calling and singing in sycamores along Big Walnut Creek
