I counted 873 individual waterfowl of 12 species at Cowan Lake this
afternoon. The noteworthy count was 500 Lesser Scaup. The previous high
count over four years of careful counts was 292 on 17 Mar 08.
I did not find the Long-tailed Duck or the White-winged Scoters, though Bob
Foppe did, at the marina about half an hour after I had counted birds there.
We also saw the Greater Yellowlegs and two Wilson's Snipe at the east end
close to the shore where the boat docks have been rebuilt. No white geese
today.

Cheers,

Bob
