The red-necked grebe remained at Summit Lake Monday but today appears to have moved on. I have not seen the two at Nimisila since Thursday. After searching thoroughly last night I have some notable observations. Only one mute swan was found on the entire reservoir! Mute swan numbers are way down at Mogadore as well. This should be good news for mallards, which in the past were surprisingly hard to find at Nimisila, and possibly other potential nesters. Also, a female common goldeneye was courting amid about 30 hooded mergansers, so expect more hybrids this fall. A single tree swallow was a first for my season. If you still have pine siskins coming to your feeder as I do it's not too early to look for courtship feeding and/or nest building.

Peace,
