Troy Shively asked me to pass along that today he found an adult lesser
black-backed gull in alternate plumage at Indian Lake (photos); this is
apparently a first Logan Co record for this species.
Bruce Glick's report of 12-13 red-necked grebes in a single day is
about twice what *all* observers see statewide in an average spring.
This brings to mind the major movements of spring 1994 and 2003. In the
latter year 190+ were reported in 38 Ohio counties, with the latest
appearing 8 May. We'll have to find a lot more to compare with '94 and
'03, but some of the same factors may be in play.
