Sean Williams, Kristen Lear, Justus Nethero and I briefly stopped by Delaware Reservoir (Delaware County) this afternoon.  We were quickly rewarded with a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL.

The adult Lesser Black-backed Gull was loafing on the Delaware State Park swimming beach with 19 Herring Gulls and ~200 Ring-billed Gulls. We first spotted the bird from Panhandle Rd within Delaware Wildlife Area.  To get closer looks we drove around the reservoir to Delaware State Park.  The swimming beach is closed, but you can park in the next parking area to the east (Buckeye Grove Picnic Area) and follow a maintained trail south to access the beach. The White-winged Scoter (female) was equally visible from Panhandle Rd and the beach.  At 3:20 p.m. both birds were still present.
