The Chipping Sparrow that stayed the winter in our backyard in Damascus, Mahoning County, began singing yesterday; the problem is there are no other Chippers around yet to listen! Last week we noticed our visitors' appearance began to change. We are witnessing a transformation from winter plumage to breeding plumage, the rusty cap is already becoming visible. How cool is that!! Tree Sparrows will not let this bird feed with them, they are constantly chasing it. Our little friend is easy to identify, it has a slightly drooping left wing.
