When I first came to Columbus, 10 years ago, or soon thereafter, the GH
Owl nested in that oak tree. Then, for several years it was not there. I
was not really surprised because it was getting a lot of disturbance
there. One of these years, someone told me it nested in a tall pine in a
certain section. I never did find it, but later saw what looked like a
stick nest at the top of a tall pine in a section next to the section
mentioned. I forget the number, but it was to the west of the pit, over
the ridge and on the other side of the 2nd road which would be crossed.
The section between the 2 roads has a number of large trees in it,
mostly oak, but several other species also and a stone bench on the
south side. I think the best place to see the nest (if it was that) was
near that bench or about the same distance on the other side.
