Ohio birders,
Yesterday (4/27) while on a family outing at Mitchell Memorial Forest in w. Hamilton Co., OH, I watched a singing male yellow-throated warbler at less than 15 ft. distant just above eye-level for at least five minutes. This bird had a very noticeable and very long decurved bill, much longer than any member of the expected subspecies in Ohio, that is Dendroica dominica albilora. The bill length of this bird was more representative of the nominate subspecies, D.d. dominica for which Peterjohn (2001) cites only one Ohio record from 1993. Trautman and Trautman (1968) don't even consider this subspecies in Ohio and Dunn and Garrett (1997) mark the nominate subspecies' range far to our southeast, no closer to Ohio than North Carolina.
I have not checked recent issues of the Ohio Cardinal. Are there any other records of the D. d. dominica in Ohio since the publication of Peterjohn?
