I haven't seen many short eared owls over the years, so I valued the
opportunity  to watch one
at Frohring Meadows at 7:00 this morning.  The bird was already in the
air when I first saw it,
accompanied by a couple of crows.  They flew together for a few
minutes, and when the
crows abandoned the pursuit, the owl slowly flapped over the marsh and
eventually landed in the
taller grasses at the back of the wet meadow. He stayed on the ground
for under five minutes
and then slowly came up again and flew through the trees,  and out of
sight.  I didn't see him again, although
I waited around for another half hour or so.

Come back!

Also, still  5 blue winged teal,  2 american wigeon, and c. snipe.
Savannah sparrows have been back for
a week.
