Hi Folks,

I just wanted to send out a quick note about the 2nd annual Queen City Bird Festival coming up during the weekend of May 16th & 17th.

This free family-friendly bird festival is co-sponsored by the Avian Research & Education Institute (AREI) and Audubon Miami Valley and is being hosted at Hueston Wood State Park Nature Center in Oxford, Ohio.

There will be live birds of prey as well a tour of the rehab & education center, which includes snakes, fox, a bobcat, and a cougar.

A guided canoe excursion around Acton Lake will be offered in the morning and evening of Saturday, May 16th.

Additionally there will be bird-banding demonstrations and guided bird walks around the state park and the Hueston Woods State Nature Preserve; a 200 acre remnant of old-growth Beech-Maple forest. The diversity of habitats offered in the park provides for excellent opportunities for finding a great variety of bird species, especially at this time of year.

Lastly there will be presentations about Ohio Young's Birders, by Kathy MacDonald, Important Bird Areas, by Dr. Hardy Eshbaugh, Birding New Mexico, presented by Ohio Young Birder Alex Hickey, Dr. David Russell will be presenting on bird migration and banding, a program on birding basics by Brian Wulker, a presentation on the international education program, Birds Without Borders, presented by Raphael Herrera, and I'll be presenting on landscaping for birds.

There will be exhibits, vendors, food, and music throughout the weekend. There will also be a bird scavenger hunt, raffles, and a variety of interactive stations for kids of all ages.

So if you're looking for an exciting birding event appropriate for the whole family definitely come and check out the 2nd annual Queen City Bird Festival. Come out and support this great opportunity to recruit new birders in Ohio.
