      This morning we birded the Guilford Lake area in Columbiana County for about three hours, recording at least 66 species. Temperature went from 31 to 51 degrees during our adventure. Here are some of the highlights:

 

     Marsh Wren   2 singing   (Depot Road Marsh) 

     American Bittern  1 seen, but silent (Depot Road)

     Mute Swan     7

     Gadwall     3 pair

     American Wigeon     1 pair

     Lesser Scaup     60+

     Bufflehead     4 males, 1 female

     Ruddy Duck     22+

     Common Loon     2 in breeding plumage (1 calling)

     Northern Harrier     1 male

     Bonaparte's Gull     2 in breeding plumage

     Eastern Screech-Owl     1 gray phase

     Field Sparrow     8+

     Fox Sparrow     1

     Pine Siskin     3

     Purple Finch     1 pair
