Today was windy and cold with snowflakes. I got a report from Annie Parker
that she had 137 Tree Swallows on the electric wire outside her home near
Chapman's Point on South Bass Island. When I got there midmorning, there
were over 100 tree swallows working low over the calm water in the bay
behind Perry's Victory with only a few left on the wires.
Also present in a drive along the shore:
Common Goldeneye xxx
Scaup sp. xxx
Bufflehead xx
Red-breasted Mergansers xx
Horned Grebe 1
Ring-necked Duck 1
In the pond by Ohio State University
Wood Duck 18
Great Blue Heron 10
A pair of belted kingfishers have been back to the same nesting spot on the
west shore of the island as last year.
