When the rain let up, around 5 this evening I went for a walk in my
fields, along the power line
corridor.
The blue winged warblers, one of the few warblers that nest on my
property, were back.. My pleasure in seeing them
again was somewhat tempered by the fact that they were flitting about
in the power line easement,
due to be cut by First Energy in the next few weeks. Here is a
corporate entity that is absolutely indifferent to
the fate of nesting birds. In spite of the study they sponsored/
participated in a few years ago, demonstrating
the potential value of the easement for wildlife, they cut without any
consideration for the birds in their path.
Other birds in the fields ......brown thrashers, yellow warblers, and
rufous sided towhees. A n. mockingbird was
present yesterday.
A few pine siskins are still hanging on the thistle feeders near my
house, but I haven't seen any behavior that would suggest a potential
nesting pair.
