While subbing at a school in this Columbus suburb, I hiked out to their 'land lab', a small patch of riparian forest along Walnut Creek, and was blown over by the numbers of singing migrants. In a small patch of cottonwood-dominated forest (plus some edge habitat) of perhaps 4 acres were a startling diversity of birds. There isn't much forest habitat in this area, so the migrants may have been concentrated here. This bodes well for the new MetroPark site nearby, which is only about a half mile down-creek. Notables in 30 minutes were

Belted Kingfisher - 1 pair
Ruby-thr.Hummingbirds - 2-3
Woodpeckers - Downy, Red-bellied & Hairy
Flycatchers - Crested, Phoebe, Least
Swallows - Tree & Rough-winged
Vireos - Warbling (3). Red-eyed (3)
Thrushes - Swainsons, Gray-cheeked, Wood
Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers (4), Ruby-cr.Kinglets (2)
Mimids - Catbirds (many), Brown Thrasher
Warblers - Yellow, Parula, Nashville, Chesnut-sided (3), Magnolia (2), Black-thr.Green, Blackpoll, Yellow-rumped, Black&White (2), Amer.Redstart (2), Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat (3)
Sparrows - E.Towhee, Chipping, Song, White-throated
Other migrants - Rose-br.Grosbeak (2), Indigo Bunting (4), Baltimore Oriole (2)
