Had a nice bike ride home on the Olentangy trail yesterday (downtown to Worthington), with the following birds observed:
blackpoll, black-throated green, yellow, yellow throated (many!), chestnut-sided, wood thrush, baltimore oriole (many), cedar waxwings, indigo buntings, gnatcatchers, great egret (OSU wetlands), GBH, great crested flycatchers, and all the usual suspects.  The cliff and barn swallows were also back at their three usual bridge nesting sites (Woody Hayes, 161, and I think Henderson).  The barns were on nests, but I didn't see any cliffs building yet. Also thought I saw a few rough-wings mixed in. I was surprised so many birds were singing early afternoon, probably more were out but not singing.  It was so nice I decided to head to Highbanks after I got home (wish the bikepath extended that far!).  In addition to the species noted above I was able to see multiple summer tanagers (all singing away), a nashville, GW pewee, E kingbirds, an empid (not singing), bluebirds, and the highlight of the day, a male Canada.  The Canada was not singing, but giving
oddly open views about 15 feet up in a rather bare tree (although apparently they are giving even better views at Magee ;-).  The Canada was observed on the "coyote" dog trail, just east of the visitor's center.  At least two summer tanagers and the Nashville could be heard from the center parking lot.

I'm heading to the Lake Saturday morning and really hope the mourning, blue-wings, and bay-breasts are still there!  I've been lucky enough to observe 33 species of warblers this year, but I need a few more easterns to round out my year list.  Any Connecticuts yet? Any news on the SE Ohio Swainson's?

Happy birding!
Heather
