About 4 pm Friday afternoon, 2 Black-necked Stilts were discovered on the flooded fields at Prairie Lane. This area is traditionally excellent for shorebirds and waterfowl when conditions are wet enough, as they are now. A number of birders saw the birds as they actively fed throughout the evening. Heavy rains made it difficult to see the birds at times.

Prairie Lane is on the DeLorme, P.50 (old edition). It runs straight south out of Wooster and joins Ohio Route 83 north of the little town of Moreland. The birds are visible from the one and only very small (3-4 cars max) parking area on the west side of Prairie Lane, south of the Gravel Company entrance and north of the RV Campground. Please don't park on Prairie Lane as there are fast-moving vehicles! Please don't enter the private property.

Other birds reported in the area from Thursday included 3 Little Blue Herons, multiple Cattle Egrets (10+?), 3 species of terns, and a variety of shorebirds. The herons/egrets were reported from nearby Wright Marsh (Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area) yesterday but I don't think they were seen today...rain washed out at least one group of birders headed that way on foot this afternoon.
