Hello - I'm reporting on this SECOND-HAND based on a recent call I received
at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes.

I've never personally seen a European goldfinch, but the fieldguides I have
here all say it is unmistakable! This gentleman called to try to confirm
his identification and to see whether it was a "big deal" to have this bird
here. I referred him to the ornithologists at the Cleve Museum of Natural
History to better answer his questions, but I did want to let local birders
know to keep an eye on their goldfinch flocks to see if this visitor with a
black, white and red face turns up again in the area.

The bird was spotted yesterday (Monday) at a feeder at a residence near the
intersection of Lee Road and East Fairfax in Cleveland Heights.

I'd be curious to know myself whether this is a "big deal," :) so those
with experience in this type of situation with a probable "escapee" please
feel free to comment! If it is most likely an escapee, then I imagine it
is not all that significant; probably more of a curiosity!

Thanks!
Katrina Heinzen
