Hello!

This morning during a Columbus Audubon-sponsored bird hike at Highbanks,
the following birds were heard and/or seen along portions of both the pet
trail and the Dripping Rock trail:

Canada Warbler-saw 1 male
American Redstart-2
Black-Throated Green Warbler-heard 1
Ovenbird-heard 1
Hooded Warbler-great views of 1 singing
Louisiana Waterthrush-great views of 2
MOURNING WARBLER-heard then saw 1 male along the pet trail after you take
the first left into the woods and before you cross over the drainage culvert
Common Yellowthroat-heard 3
Yellow Warbler-4 in back pet loop
Yellow-Breasted Chat-4 or 5 along the pet trail
Eastern Bluebird-3 along pet trail
Indigo Bunting-3 or 4
Yellow-Billed Cuckoo-4 or 5
Scarlet Tanager
Orchard Oriole-1 in back pet loop
Yellow-Throated Vireo-great views of 1 singing by the pond
Warbling Vireo
Acadian Flycatcher-2
Willow Flycatcher-saw 1 calling in back pet loop
Eastern Wood Pee Wee-saw 1, heard another 5
Great-Crested Flycatcher-heard 1 or 2
Chimney Swift-6
Tree Swallow-5
Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher-6 or 7
Ruby-Throated Hummingbird-2
Cedar Waxwing-2
Eastern Towhee-4
Wood Duck-4 on pond
Cooper's Hawk

Conspicuous in their absence today were the Summer Tanagers although
several are in the park. I have seen a Blue-Winged Warbler in the same area of
the pet trail for the past 2 weeks (although not today) and I observed a
pair of Northern Parula at the Overlook deck this past Thursday. In general
this Spring, the numbers of Yellow Warblers, Yellow-Breasted Chats, and
Yellow-Billed Cuckoos are up compared to the last several years.

All in all, a beautiful morning and a great hike with folks from Iowa
getting 8 life birds! Directions to Highbanks can be accessed via the OOS web
site or at _www.metroparks.net_ (http://www.metroparks.net) .
