I was at Hell Hollow this morning doing some plant surveys and had some
interesting birds also.  The best was a singing male WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL.
It was at the top of a hemlock tree singing.  It flew to the top of another
hemlock and continued to sing.  I was un able to see if a female was in the
area, but it looked promising.

There were lots of singing dark-eyed juncos and winter wrens.  They were
already on territory.  What i found interesting were a single singing
magnolia warbler and two American redstarts.  All of which were acting as if
on territory.  All were in areas where they regularly breed.  It seems early
for them.  Other breeders of note were blue-headed vireo, (3),
black-throated green warbler (6), cerulean warbler (2), and Hooded warbler
(3).  I also had a black-billed cuckoo.  There were rose-breasted grosbeaks
everywhere.
