An inventory trip to Gahanna Woods this morning found increasingly blustery weather after the early morning, with birds getting harder to find. A side trip to nearby Jefferson Township Woods was almost blown out by the later winds, but some interesting things were still found. Notables included:

Sandpipers - both Spotted & Solitary Sandpipers were in the wetlands
Hawks - calling Cooper's and Red-shouldered hinted that both of these species are nesting here again
Ruby-thr.Hummingbirds - 2-3 at GW and another at JTW found these birds getting more widespread
Flycatchers - 2 calling Pewees and 3 calling Acadians were at GH, along with the expected Phoebe, Crested, and E.Kingbird

Swallows - Barn Rough-winged and Tree were all cruising over the neighboring wetlands
Vireos - 3-4 singing Red-eyed were joined by 1 Yellow-throated at GW
Thrushes - Wood Thrushes and Swainson's were singing at both woods, with 5+ Woods at GW and 2 at JTW
Mimids - lots of Catbirds, but little else
Cedar Waxwings - a flock of 30+ was on the south edge of the wetlands, and 2-4 were in other spots

Warblers - 10 species at GW: Blue-winged, Yellow (2), Parula, Nashville (4), Tennessee, Chesnut-sided (3), Black-thr.Green (2), Yellow-rumped (3), Hooded (2), Common Yellowthroat (3). JTW added Magnolia and a singing Cerulean to the list

Other migrants: Scarlet tangers (2 GW), Rose-br.Grosbeaks (2 GW, 1 JTW), Indigo Buntings (lots), Baltimore Oriole (1 GW)

Wildflowers were fairly good , too, with big patches of Geraniums and Trilliums (although many were gone by), along with smaller patches of Solomon's Seal, White Baneberry, and Jack-in-the Pulpit.
