This evening I witnessed a chipmonk under the bird feeder first chase a
Robin, who flew away, then turn around and deliberately rush at an
American Gold Finch and visiously attack it. I ran outside, which is about
8 steps...it was GONE. NO! The chipmonk was dragging the barely alive
finch under the deck! My approach startled THE BEAST into abandoning it's
catch. But it was too late; the little gold bird was dead.
Who ever heard of a carnivorous chipmonk?
