At 10Am this morning there was a probable Forster's Tern in breeding plumage at Salem Reservoir. It could be seen working the reservoir from the bait shop; it would then land and rest on the white access bridge to the discharge tower, at the south end of the lake. I was able to get some good photos. The caretaker said today was the first time he had seen, as he described it, the noisy fork-tailed gull. He told us earlier in the morning, before anyone had arrived, he threw the dead bait minnows from the previous day off the end of the dock; the tern snatched them up chattering the whole time! Unfortunately during our visit there was no vocalizations heard! We plan a return visit this evening. The location is on Gamble Road (TWP 758) northeast of Guilford Lake.
