The May/June 2008 issue of Bird Watchers Digest (Vol. 30, No.5)
features an in-depth article by Connie Toops in which she documents
just such an observation. The article covers similar observations from
other sources, as well, including various  USDA studies and online
birders' forums. There is an excerpt of a scholarly reference from the
March 1971 Wilson Bulletin that details chipmunk predation of bank
swallows.
