> Since our trip didn't hit much of Battelle-Darby MetroPark yesterday, I ventured there this morning to search again for strays. Spots visited there and nearby included Bolton Field, Terrace Trail, Cedar Ridge access, and the new Darby Dan wetlands and adjoining grasslands. I also queried Tim Taylor, the BDMP naturalist, about some species. Notables included:
>
> Raptors - not much. Tim actually had a Bald Eagle flying north of the wetland yesterday morning. Where it was coming from (and where it was going) remain a mystery.
>
> Shorebirds - Tim reports several Spotted Sandpipers in the new Darby Dan wetlands, raising the possiblity of breeding. I had a defensive pair at Windward Farms park on the way out, a place where they've bred before. This year is shaping up as a boom year for this species in central Ohio, so be on the lookout for them this month. On the down side, I could not find any evidence of Upland Sandpipers at either Bolton Field or Darby Dan airport/fields
>
> Yellow-billed Cuckoo - I had 1 calling along the Terrace Trail, while Tim had 1 along the Trail of the Ancients yesterday. Both are regular spots for this species.
>
> Flycatchers - nothing out of the ordinary, but good numbers of Wood Pewees and Crested Flycatchers were at several locations along Darby Creek. 10 Acadians along the Terrace Trail was another good number.
>
> Vireos - typically large #s of Red-eyed, but there were also 2 Yellow-throated at both the Terrace Trail and Cedar Ridge.
>
> Thrushes - Wood Thrushes seem to have moved into most wooded areas, in numbers that were 'unprecedented' (T. Taylor); I was rarely out of earshot of them this morning (except at Bolton Field). Tim had a Veery along the Creek down near Darbydale yesterday, one of the few Summer records of this species along the Darby in recent years.
>
> Wood Warblers - N. Parulas and Yellow-throateds were at most stops along Darby Creek, often more than 1. The Terrace trail had 1-2 singing Kentuckies and 1-2 singing Ovenbirds, making it one of the few forest patches along the creek to attract these deep woods warblers. A Yellow-breasted Chat was chattering away near the Indian Ridge parking area.
>
> Sparrows & Larks - grassland sparrows continue to be sparse (along with their grass-loving brethren, Dickcissels and Bobolinks). I was only able to find Savannah Sparrows, with 2-3 at Bolton Field and another 1 singing at Darby Dan grasslands. There appears to be much less unplanted acreage this year, which probably works against most of these species. E. Meadowlarks and Horned Larks were at both Bolton Field and DD Grasslands.
