Yesterday (6-9) there was an American bittern at Herrick Fen (Portage
County). Saw one there a while back, however have no way of knowing whether
this is the same individual.
Other highlights:

Mallard with ducklings
Wood duck with ducklings

Great Egret 1 (there were a few more in someone's backyard
just north of the fen)
Great Blue Herons 9 7 in tree + 2 more in the water
Green Herons 6 or 7+ it was a bit hard to keep track of them as some were
flying high into trees and others low over the lilies

Eastern Kingfisher 2
Eastern Phoebes
Eastern Kingbirds

Brown Thrashers 2
Northern Flickers several
Cedar Waxwings numerous

Tree swallows with young. One little guy was desperately trying to get the
hang of receiving his meal; at one point when the insects (6 discernible on
photograph) were delivered: 1 rolled down the back of his head, 2 fell to
the boardwalk, and 3 made it down the hatch. He did do better on his next
turn.

Renee
