I was able to get some great looks at a *Whimbrel* and 2 Long-billed
Dowitchers late this morning
at the Lorain Impoundment. Other shorebirds included Least and Semi-Palm
SP's, and Spotted and
Solitary SP's. All birds were spotted in the pond/mudflat at the NW
corner. Much of the area is covered
in weeds unlike last year where some good mudflats remained into the
fall. Also, a large group (15) of
House Finches were seen a couple of times as I traversed the trail
around the Impoundment.
On the way home I stopped at Sandy Ridge in N. Ridgeville. Not much
there in the way of mudflats yet, but it
could improve in the next couple weeks. Saw a couple of Gr. Yellowlegs
and a couple of Solitary Sp's.
The Red-headed Woodpeckers put on quite a show along the trails in the
wetlands.
See you on the trails,
Chris Pierce
