Brad Sparks just called, wanting me to announce that he and Ben Warner
found good numbers of shorebirds at Pickerington Ponds MP, where water
levels on the east side of Bowen Rd are excellent, hosting ~50 lesser
yellowlegs, one nice adult western sandpiper, two stilt sandpipers,
pectorals, and many least/semipalmated sandpipers, and of course
spotties and killdeer. The move seems to be on, and we can only assume
that good habitat inland will be productive now. I should add that I
found a primary feather out at Slate Run MP in Pickaway County last
weekend that seems, after some research at the museum, to be from a
whimbrel, an excellent bird this far from the Lake.
Good shorebirding to all,
Bill Whan
