Species in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS ARE REVIEW LIST SPECIES. Details of these sightings are desired by the Ohio Bird Records Committee. Careful observation, not ornithological expertise, is the only qualification for submitting your data. For details and pointers see: http://www.ohiobirds.org/records/documentation.php

BROWN PELICAN: Observed by Frank Renfrow from the Manhattan Harbour Marina on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River, an immature bird flew over Ohio waters and proceded to land in a tree on the Hamilton Co., Ohio side on 13 July. The second verified Ohio record this month.

Least Bittern: The species was observed at Conneaut 21 July (Emil Bacik, Craig Caldwell, Jerry Talkington).

Tricolored Heron: Dan Elliot reported a juvenile at the Conneaut flats 16 July.

WHITE IBIS: Renee discovered a cooperative young bird in Guernsey Co. 14 July. Directions: I-77 to Exit 37, west on SR 313, south on SR 821, pull off near the railroad tracks and walk west on the tracks to the extensive marsh. The bird was last reported by Bernie King 19 July, but a conflict has arisen with the supposed owner of the railroad, who told several visiting birders that the area is private property.

Merlin: John Pogacnik reported a female in Lake feeding two fledglings. He observed the birds while conducting field surveys on private property and watched the adult snagging and feeding dragonflies to the young. Nesting has long been suspected in this part of the state, with nearly annual summer reports over the past ten years or so.

American Avocet: Eight flew into Conneaut 11 July and a single bird was present the next day for Robert Krajeski.

Willet: A total of 15 birds passed through Conneaut on 22 July (Craig Holt).

Upland Sandpiper: Dave Horn shared yet another location for this species on 12 July: “This morning at 11:15 I saw an Upland Sandpiper flying west over the intersection of (Indiana) County Road 1000 (straddling the state line) and Williams County Road M50, Florence Township, Williams Co. (DeLorme p. 24). Both the bird and I were in Ohio when I first spotted it; it continued flying into Indiana (Steuben Co.).”

Whimbrel: A bird was at Conneaut Harbor 13 July (Craig Holt).

Marbled Godwit: A bird dropped by Conneaut the morning of the 21st (Emil Bacik, Craig Caldwell).

Western Sandpiper: Adults stopped by Pickerel Creek WA 21 July (Gabe Leidy) and Pickerington Ponds MP 23 July (Brad Sparks, Ben Warner).

Wilson’s Phalarope: Two were at Pickerel Creek WA 21 July (Gabe Leidy).

Black Tern: Three birds visited Slate Run MP 17 July (Rob Thorn).

Bell’s Vireo: A singing bird was observed in Springfield 16-17 July (Larry Jeanblanc, Doug Overacker). Directions: “The bird is along the bike trail less than 100 yards east of the corner of Linden Avenue and East Washington Street in Springfield. This is just about three blocks from the center of town.” A bird was reported at Kilby Rd. Gravel Pits as recently as 19 July (Daniel Schoeff).

Sedge Wren: Andrew Morrison encountered three singing birds at Chagrin River Park, Lake 15 July. On the 18th, two were singing in the prairie at Grant Park, part of the Centerville-Washington Township Park District (Kevin Myers).

Nashville Warbler: John Pogacnik observed two adults feeding a fledgling on private property in Leroy Township, Lake 13 July.

White-crowned Sparrow: Jeremy Ross photographed a nonbreeder in his Bowling Green yard 8 July.

Blue Grosbeak: A bird was at “the vacant lot just south of Lowe's, which is on the west side of US-23 just north of the I-270 interchange in south Columbus” on 16 July (Dave Slager). A pair were observed along Cowman Rd. in Highland Co. 21 July (Duane ?). At Kilby Rd. Gravel Pits, birds were last reported 19 July (Mike Busam, William Hull, Charlie Saunders).
